Introducing Chris, Graphic Designer Extraordinaire!
Meet Chris Mandle, who brings his design acumen, good humor and ethical sensibility to many projects - from websites to annual reports - with Flansburg-Sivell Communications. We’re always thrilled to work with him, and think you will be, too!
What are your fondest memories of doing art-oriented activities as a kid?
I loved to draw from an early age. Cartoon characters, logos of my favorite sports teams.
At 10, I even designed layouts of how I should rearrange my bedroom!
Another memory comes from 4tth grade, when I earned honors for having the best handwriting in my class.
While most people probably wouldn’t make too much of it, it foreshadowed my future life. It probably started me down the path of recognizing what good fonts and forms look like.
Throughout school and into college, I took just about every art class possible.
How do you think graphic design contributes to a culture?
Early in college in one my first graphic design courses, I was told that graphic designers were the most powerful people in the world.
I remember thinking that's such a strange thing to believe!
But I’ve learned over time that designers can and do influence what we believe, buy, think, and do.
Graphic designers are some of the most influential persuaders and educators out there. It’s incumbent on us to use that influence ethically and morally.
Some of the most innovative and famous designers of modern times – Ray and Charles Eames, for example – exemplified that.
What's your philosophy of business/graphic design?
I love doing good work for people who are doing good work in the world. That’s my main motivation as a graphic designer!
My approach is always holistic and ethical in both business and graphic design. At the end of day, honesty, transparency, and good work always have to win out.
Working with Flansburg-Sivell Communications fits my business and design philosophy. We work together seamlessly, honestly and transparently to create the good work we both value.
