Choosing the Right Direction

By Susan Flansburg

We all have times when we feel ... unsettled. Off-kilter. Uncertain.

Sometimes we know what’s causing our unease, but not always.

Maybe we feel just feel agitated and unable to settle down.

Maybe we have suffered a loss or are facing hard times and don’t know what to do.

Maybe we long for something more, but don’t know what it could be.

Wisdom figures from ancient times to the present suggest such feelings point to deep questions in our lives, questions of purpose, path, and next steps.

I was able to explore this recently with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange, CA. The resulting story on the practice of Spiritual Direction is available in their recent edition of Bridges.

Interviewees shared their spiritual direction experiences with me. One said, “It was what my heart had needed and been longing for. The experience finally led me through the debris of my own life to God. I thought, 'I am home.'”

Working on “How a Little Known Spiritual Practice Helps You Hear God” reminded me of how much I love my job as a marketing communicator.

I love getting to know people and learning their stories. I love sharing their amazing and unique perspectives.

I love combining strategic marketing and communications principles with effective story telling.

I also love giving my clients exactly what they’re looking for, whether for their nonprofit or for-profit organizations.
