I Was an Immigrant ...

By Susan Flansburg

Hardly a month goes by without some religious community, somewhere, using this sign.

I found it in my inbox again recently! The Franciscan Action Network included it in their call to action on the treatment of refugees.

In fact, it’s been in use now for 8 years.

I helped create it, with the wonderful collaborative group we call SUN.

Sisters United News was formed by the Catholic Sisters of the Upper Mississippi River Valley. Over the years SUN has created many projects, from videos to radio commercials and social media campaigns to print materials.

This particular project was hatched when we gathered to write a Christmas message. It quickly evolved into something that could be used in any season and in many ways.

It’s been on billboards, posters, bumper stickers and more throughout the country. It’s been in newspapers and newsletters. It’s made a difference.

I’m grateful that it’s still carrying a genuine Gospel message of caring and love into the world.
